This blog follows the journey of my MSc undertaken during 2013-2014 as I investigated the lives, loves and loathings of Kelp Gulls, Larus dominicanus vetula, breeding in Plettenberg Bay.

After the quadcopter bought for my project was crashed a few times and ended up stuck in the repairs workshop, we had to make an alternative plan. This came in the form of Jason. He offered a hand and I took the whole arm! He came and flew his fixed-wing drone over the colony with a GoPro taking 2 pictures every second. It was awesome! Such incredible photos! The birds were surprisingly unruffled by the drone.
An interesting sight - adult gull swallowing a gull chick.
